Herbert Lom

Mysterious Island was on constant repeat when I was growing up. And, given my nephews unreasonable knowledge of this epic of film magic, I reckon this movie never stopped playing at my parents’ house!

It’s one of my favorite ever movies. I can put it on now and enjoy as much (or more) as I did when I was 10 years old. And Herbert Lom’s corrupted-yet-noble Captain Nemo is no small part of this film’s lasting appeal.

A lot of actors can play villains. Few can play sympathetic villains. Fewer still can play villains whose death makes you cry.

Herbert Lom did all this.

In a kids movie.
