Carter Stepper: What Trekkies Know About God

I missed this presentation delivered by a mutual acquaintance. Carter Stepper (named after John Carter), seems to be a kindred spirit – loving Jesus and digging Star Trek. Here’s his lecture on the spirituality of my favorite pop sci-fi franchise.

This was part of a series of lectures that are the public face of a really neat organization called The Row House, which meets in nearby Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

  1. This is interesting and fun, although I quibble with a few of his points (“Kirk is dangerous to those around him” – really? Oh, well, he did say he’d be painting with a broad brush!) I do like the way he emphasizes that Trek (at its best) is not afraid to ask the hard questions about human progress. I tend to forget that when, at the other extreme, I criticize Trek for being overly optimistic about human potential (a flaw which, I think, was honestly more a problem with TNG than TOS).

Thanks for pointing this out to us!
